I loved From Gods so much, I spent every waking moment I had (while I wasn’t working of course.) devouring this book!

Why I loved it:

The story is both original and reminds me of Twilight at the same time.

Romance & love is the central element here, what I LOVED was that it felt real. Their feelings for each other slowly built up in a realistic way throughout the book. Lots of swoon worthy moments that had me smiling!

"He interweaved his fingers through hers, guiding her to his car, and for the third time, he held her hand as if it had always belonged there."

The Feels! The main character Skylar has been through so much. You can feel her emotion pour from the pages...

“They say time heals all wounds. It doesn’t. It just patches a broken heart. It doesn’t get any easier over time. You just learn to live with the pain.”

The genre- It falls somewhere in between young-adult and new-adult, with the sub genre being fantasy, romance and mythology! (It’s all clean.)
Skylar is at the pivotal age where she’s just getting ready to start college and enter adulthood,we get to see her character develop in many different ways throughout the story.

The Mythology- I loved the original take on Greek Mythology in this one, I’ve never read another mythology book quite like this one!

The Mystery- As it states in the summary, Skylar’s life pretty much turns into one big giant mystery. Don’t worry, she finds out quite a bit but there’s new questions to be answered for book two!

"Being curious idiots, we decided to risk our lives to find the answer."

The Characters- Not only did I love Skylar and Mason but the secondary characters as well! In fact, they were written so well and are set up in a way where I could see some of them having their own books later on!

The Ending- Even though this is a series I love the way Mary Ting wrapped everything up oh so nicely...until the last page that is! There’s nothing like that last second twist to make you want to read the next book right away!

All that being said, I’m kicking myself for not reading this book sooner! (It came out in 2013.)

I will be starting book two From Deities tonight!

From Gods Descendant Prophecies Book 1 edition by Mary Ting Maxine Bringenberg TJS Literary Editing Laura Hidalgo Children eBooks Reviews

I'm amazed at so many high reviews. It was hard to read I quit at 60% and that was forcing myself to try and get somewhere with the story. For being 18 the character acts about 13 it is incredibly annoying. The cousins character is even worse. And the attraction but i hate you but I can't love you bs is is obnoxious. Everything about the diner is pointless aside from the fact they run into the guys there but really they could have done that anywhere every scene in the diner was pointless and the diner people were irritating as hell. The texting was super annoying too the girls talked to each other like they were 10 hugs hugs back big sigh. Ugh
Holy moly. This was terrible from page one. If you like sappy, immature girls completely focused on the opposite sex, then by all means, carry on. If not, don’t even bother with this. Usually I can struggle through amateur novels such as this for lack of anything else to do, but this one was physically painful to read.

I could surmise the main character, Skylar, was going to be a hoot by the time I reached the first chapter. Most authors have the decency to save the sappy, teenage-girl “Ohmygod he’s so handsome he makes my guts jiggle and tingle” until at least the fourth chapter or so, but Ting just throws that in there on page 3. I don’t think I found a page after that didn’t have something like “hot guys,” “Are those boys looking because they think I’m cute?” “checking out the guys.” It was not an intriguing start to a novel. Not one bit.

Skylar and her cousin, Kayla, prove to be some of the stupidest protagonists I have ever encountered. The two are eighteen and recently graduated high school. They decide it’s a good idea to go to a secluded beach party with a group of strange men they met in Kayla’s mother’s diner. No. Just no. Perhaps a larger house party with plenty of other people, but a secluded beach? Just how does that not ring any alarm bells in a sensible woman’s mind? While they are at the beach party Skylar even feels uncomfortable, and red flags pop up for her. If the author was trying to portray her characters as stupid, she did a heck of a job.

The writing itself is awkward and clunky, like a high school student writing a story for an English class. Ting basically barrages her readers with what the characters are feeling and tells them everything instead of showing us with behaviors and descriptions. The dialogue was often awkward and sounded strange. The romantic scenes were awful, like this epic line, for example “His tongue danced with hers, tasting and sucking her deep within him.” Is he a vacuum cleaner? Good god. Oh, and this one happened between the riveting Kayla and a guy named Nick shortly after her cousin Skylar almost drowned. Nice girl, huh?

Here are some more epic lines that truly capture the ‘jolting’ essence of this novel

“On their way out the door, Mason gave her a sideways quick smile.” Wait, what? What the heck is that?

“She’d forgotten she couldn’t buy beer because she’d never bought one before.” So you forgot you were 18 and not yet allowed to buy alcohol? Oh, really? That’s like forgetting you’re 43 and having an intimate relationship with a 16 year old because oops I forgot.

This author seems to love the word “obviously,” obviously.

I really tried to find more, but I just couldn’t finish this book. My only joy was finding typos and painfully awkward or just plain stupid sentences so that I could reveal them in a scathing review. My recommendation, skip this drivel and find yourself a few strong drinks (like, enough to pass out) and note that you lost the same number of brain cells in half the time.
I received a complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review of Mary Ting's From Gods and I'm so glad I did.

This book is a different genre then the Crossroad's Saga Series she's known for.
It is "electric" as it blends paranormal romance, mythology (which I love), action and suspense together for an amazing read.

Skylar Rome wants to spend the summer with her cousin, Kayla before heading off to college in the fall. Her path crosses with Mason Grand and his brothers. From that moment on strange events start happening that she can't explain but swoon worthy Mason is always there to save the day. Skylar's attraction to him is like she's been hit by lightning. Could it be because he's a descendant of Zeus?

This book is definitely a page turner and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. All I can say is Mary Ting you've done it again! This book exceeded my expectations, I was literally blown away. My question is how long do I have to wait for the sequel?
